Fashion and Textile Events in October

LOANHOOD: Rave and Repair

After having searched for a number of current sustainable fashion exhibitions in London and being unsuccessful I decided to look for events similar instead. I stumbled across ‘LOANHOOD: Rave and Repair’ which is an event organised by The Seam and Loanhood. They have people working in the lab to help you alter, tailor and even customise your own clothes. While waiting for your piece of clothing to be altered you can have a dance and a drink or talk to the maker for some advice.

One of the founders grew up with her grandmother always being able to repair all her clothes. But after having moved to London she had trouble finding somewhere to do the same. This led to her caring less for her clothes and even resulted in her buying things she wouldn’t end up wearing. With a care for the environment and wanting to adore her own clothes again she set up The Seam, which is expanding across London.

Loanhood is a fashion rental app that was made for people who want to have the luxury of wearing new clothes without having to buy them. With sustainability in mind, ‘loaners’ can borrow clothes from other people or rent out their own to make some extra money. Loanhood has great methods of slowing down fast fashion through organising events including clothes swaps, educational workshops and more.

The London Textile Fair

I also came across The London Textile Fair, which is a UK platform for fashion fabrics, accessories, print studios and vintage garments. The textile fair offers a huge range of textiles from reputable textile mills across Europe. TLTF was created having designers, buyers and distributors in mind, who are given the opportunity to keep up strong relationships while also being able to source and develop new items.
