Loanhood: Rave and Repair visit

In October I went to the event Loanhood: Rave and Repair which was held at The Lab E20, in Stratford. The Lab E20, is a space for cultural exhibition and a creative workspace that enters around positive fashion and sustainable living. The space was designed by Christopher Raeburn, who founded RÆBURN.

The idea for the workspace was established at the beginning of covid and was derived from the realisation of being stuck in an environmental crisis. RÆBURN acknowledged that we all collectively need to adapt everything we do as people. The Lab E20 has since been designed for creators to be able to work collaboratively, with and for the environment. Pushing people to work outside their comfort zone, the intention is to connect and bring together both fashion and development, with The Lab E20 being motivation for others to do the same.

The materials that were used to create the space have either been up-cycled or recycled, and furthermore can be fully recycled once they decide to redesign the space again. “We have turned decommission British military parachutes into curtains, alongside original Life Raft containers and military benches as mobile units. We hope it provokes the industry’s approach to material use and the merits if is-called ‘waste’.”

It was a very much collaborative event that was hosted by a number of organisations including Loanhood, The Seam and Lara Intimates. Each organisation shares a strong focus on sustainability within fashion. The new app LOANHOOD was promoted where you can either lend out or borrow clothes rather than buying an item you’re only going to wear a handful of times. At the event people were encouraged to try on clothes they’ve taken an interest in and to download the app that’s in its final stages of being completed.
